JPG, PNG, WEBP — max 20MB
Of all the file-size targets people search for, 100KB is by far the most common — and for good reason. Job portals, university applications, government forms, and exam registrations routinely ask for a photo or signature "not more than 100KB." It is the unofficial standard for "small enough to store, big enough to recognize." If you have ever had an application rejected because your photo was 312KB, this page exists for you.
The compressor above is pre-set to 100KB, so you can skip the setup entirely: drop your image in, and download a version that lands at or just under 100KB. The tool automatically tests quality levels — starting high and working down — until it finds the sharpest image that still fits. If quality alone cannot get there, it gently reduces the dimensions too.
Honest answer: for anything viewed on a screen, a 100KB photo looks perfectly fine. A well-lit headshot compressed to 100KB is crisp enough for LinkedIn, resumes, ID forms, and profile pictures. Where you will notice the difference is in large prints or heavy cropping — a 100KB file does not carry enough data for a sharp 8x10 print. Use 100KB for digital submissions and screen viewing; compress to 200KB instead if the image also needs to look good printed or displayed large.
If the preview looks softer than you would like, start from a higher-resolution original — the compressor has more data to work with and the result stays sharper. And if a form demands something even smaller, our 50KB compression guide walks through the stricter targets.
Like the main Image Compressor, this page runs entirely in your browser. Your photo is never uploaded to a server, there is no account to create, no daily limit, and no paid tier hiding the download button. Compress one image or one hundred — it costs nothing.
Yes. The tool targets at or just under 100KB, so the result satisfies any "maximum 100KB" rule. If your form also states a minimum, check the downloaded file size — most 100KB results land in the 80–99KB range.
JPEG compresses photographs far more efficiently than PNG, so the tool outputs JPEG to hit small targets. The tradeoff: transparency is not preserved. If your image needs a transparent background, use the Background Remover tool instead and skip heavy compression.
Start with the highest-resolution original you have — downscaling a sharp 4000px photo to 100KB looks far better than compressing an already-small image. Also avoid compressing the same file twice; every round of JPEG compression throws away more detail.
