Kelvin to Celsius in Depth
Subtract 273.15 — the mirror of the Celsius-to-Kelvin shift. Because the degree size is identical, this conversion never distorts: a 10 K change is exactly a 10°C change, which is why scientists quote differences interchangeably.
Reading Scientific Data
Papers report Kelvin; humans think in Celsius. 310 K (body temperature) → 37°C; 77 K (liquid nitrogen) → −196°C; 4 K (liquid helium) → −269°C. The subtraction is trivial, but doing it wrong by 273 vs 273.15 introduces a 0.15° error — irrelevant for weather, relevant for calibration.
Negative Check
A result below −273.15°C means your input was unphysical — negative Kelvin does not exist. If you see it, the input was wrong, not the converter.
